My 1st NY apt was on the 3rd floor of the brick building which is now next door (looks like they took down the little building in between for now). I always knew about the photog owner, but never the details…
This old building on Spring and Bowery has always seemed like an abandoned dump, but really it’s a 72 mega mansion owned by photographer Jay Maisel. Maisel bought it in the 60’s for only $102,000. NY Mag has a small photo slideshow of the inside which isn’t as impressive as this guy around the corner. It’s still a cool space!
