Who wants to build a startup?
Startup Weekend is a testament to the viral nature of good ideas.
At Startup Weekend a community’s designers, developers, marketers, and entrepreneurs work together to prong projects from the concept stage to launch in just 54 hours. Startup Weekend began three years ago, and since then has spread to more than 100 cities all over the world.
We were able to share our startup story at a NYC Startup Weekend in June, and to show what we do, the able event organizer Shane Reiser embedded an Urtak on the NYCSW site.
After the event, the Urtak migrated to the main Startup Weekend site, where it has since gathered a very large number of responses from more than 1400 participants.
The three most significant questions in the Urtak are:
Have you been to more than one Startup Weekend?
Have you ever used a coworking space?
And from the x-tabs, we learn that those who have been to more than one Startup Weekend, are much more likely to have iPads, twice as likely to be on Foursquare, and are stronger believers in the need for a co-founder than those who haven’t.
When it comes to participants who have used a coworking space, it turns out that they are more likely to have already started a business.
And interestingly enough, even though only 50% of respondents say they trust venture capitalists, more than half of them would like VC money for their startups. The reward outweighs the risk, it might appear.
As always, much more can be learned about about the vibrant Startup Weekend community by analyzing the results for yourself.
And as new questions are asked and Startup Weekend keeps growing, we will continue to learn more and more about the people who dream of shaking the world with new ideas.
Startup Weekend surveyawesome and exciting to see Urtak and Startup Weekend working together to generate meaningful insights on start-up entrepreneurs.
