There's a lot of music x technology x creativity x heart happening in NY right now. The Y+30 event last night "The Future of Music: with Lyor Cohen, CEO Rec. Music, Warner Music'' was filled with thoughtful, intelligent people looking to help tread a path to a win-win for artists and their fans.

We're not there - yet. Though I feel we're getting close. There was a point in Q&A when Lyor almost argued for DRM. The tech crowd winced. What does the music industry get for shedding drm? They are quick to point to things they may lose in the short run without it.

I think the creative solutions and an incredible ecosystem thriving around non-drm music is exactly what will soon come to be the salvation of the music industry.

The amount of music remixing and mashing up going on online can overwhelm me today. But a lot of terrific tracks are coming from the process... if you can only find your way to them.

In that vein, my friend and favorite blip.fm dj, @retiredprodigy, just gave the world a killer mixtape of independent music matched to great beats. Here's a grab of the what's packed into Pam's Indie Loves Beats 2010. Grab it and load it up, and you will be dancing on the F train mañana.

Spreading great music and remixes like this drive people to discover artists, go to performances, and spend. We will figure out sales so that it works for artists, fans, and even for record companies that evolve past their RIAA stage. It's not too far off when people will gladly pay a little for a bit of curation that's valuable to them and to their friends.
