First Mondays At Meet

First Mondays At Meet is a free, inclusive event for freelancers, entrepreneurs, and plain free thinkers. It’s happened twice, and it is planned to go on twice more: on July 13th (moved for July 4th holiday) & August 3rd. While Meet At The Apartment bills it as a co-working event, it is more of high quality interactive seminar series. All the talks were very good — or excellent — and they were all expertly guided back into rewarding Q&A by Marc Schiller. Marc & Sara Schiller are the wizards running the Meet space. You might know them by their cool blog, Wooster Collective - A Celebration of Street Art, or by way of Marc's strategy agency Electric Artists.

At the June 1 event, we heard from four speakers, an hour a piece at 10, 12, 2, and 4. Meet At The Apartment is arguably the best meeting space for hire in NY. You are mingling with like minds in luxury, with free wifi and plenty of places to plug in.

Allison Hemming Co-founder of The Hired Guns, on The Art of Networking
Allison is a pro. Her talk had us all confessing faults, sharing skills, and exchanging cards.

Jake Bronstein Founder of Zoomdoggle and BuckyBalls
Jake was refreshingly honest, humble, and human. He came to share his experience and his story. He is a funny, talented guy, and I learned a lot from his talk, and especially from the Q&A. This was one of those talks you come away from inspired do more: to create, make, do, share, and live.

Sam Lessin, CEO of Drop.io
Sam is scary smart. He spoke at at least one Internet Week event. I am glad I caught him here. He told the story of drop.io and his journey with the business. Geeks (me included) love this stuff, and I think everyone got something out of the business story.

Stefan Boublil, Founder of the creative studio The APT
Stefan’s presentation was a surprise to me. I remembered The Apartment in its different lives from visiting the neighborhood, but I never knew the story behind the place or its changes. Stefan has a fascinating story, and he packs a lot into his presentation, including some stellar creative work. This talk was impressively honest and humble, too.

First Mondays At Meet is a top notch learning and networking event in a beautiful space on Crosby and Prince. If you can make one of the two that are left, I highly recommend that you rsvp and come. You can sign up for their mailing list on welcometomeet.com.

A big thanks to Marc, Sara, and Stefan, for putting these great events together and keeping them free.
