ATT FAIL

Update 5: Not so fast, ATT has even more Fail left

I thought that it would be in AT&T’s best interest to offer all iPhone 3G early adopters a fully subsidized iPhone 3G S simply because it would lock us in for another 2 years of expensive monthly service. That’s something AT&T shouldn’t pass up given the rumors swirling about the company losing its iPhone exclusivity after next year. But now, for many users still not eligible for the iPhone 3G S full subsidy, who likely won’t upgrade, they’ll be free to do as they wish next year. Including leave AT&T. …more

Update 4: We WON! You spoke so loud that ATT had to listen — thanks to all of you.

AT&T on Wednesday published an open letter to customers on its iPhone 3G S upgrade eligibility program in which it announced that, for a limited time, it will offer early iPhone 3G adopters the opportunity to purchase an iPhone 3G S at the same $199 and $299 price points as new customers. …more

UPDATE 3: Call *639# from your AT&T handset & it’ll send back a text w/ info about your upgrade eligibility

UPDATE 2: Check your upgrade eligibility at https://buyiphone.apple.com

UPDATE 1: There’s an online Twitter petitiion you can sign @ http://twitition.com/f96aq (>1,000 signatures as of writing).Note, twitition.com requires your username and password for your signature.

Original Post:

While new ATT customers can expect tp pay the announced pricing, loyal iPhone subscribers are being gouged by the ATT’s upgrade pricing.

$199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB) are the announced prices with a 2 year contract.

$399 (16GB) and $499.00 (32GB) are the actual prices for existing iPhone customers with a 2 year contract renewal, plus an $18 “upgrade fee” to add insult to injury!

$417 (16GB) and $517 (32 GB) are the real prices for any existing iPhone user to upgrade to a 3GS.

This is a repulsive way to treat customers who have buoyed ATT through this economy and have already spent $200 - $700 on previous iPhones, let alone the additional data plans and usage fees with their 2+ years of iPhone service. When the 3G came out, I think we got the same price as new users, plus the insulting upgrade fee. Where does ATT get off reaching into our wallets for $200 more a year later? They think they can behave like the MTA, because we have no other legit choices with our iPhones. They are wrong.

Demand good customer service from ATT. Demand better pricing for existing iPhone customers. Be vocal. Tweet out your frustration, and demand ATT treat you with respect. Use the tag #attfail.
